Seeking Christ, in Unity
In today’s first reading, God begins to fulfill the words that He had told King Solomon, after the latter had adored idol gods, and put up high places of worship for his wifes’ foreign gods.

The united kingdom of Israel’s walls begin to crack as the cloak of this prophet, Ahijah.

In retrospect, Israelites had sought to have a king rule over them; and God gave them Saul; and David; and Solomon; and all these kings had their goods and their bads.

And none could really match with the sovereignty of God the Almighty.

And as we reflect about the gospel of the day, we encounter a crowd of people who have joined hands, and are going to Christ: Taking with them, a deaf man who had a speech impediment. And they are begging him to lay His hand on him.

The beauty of a community of believers, who are united in purpose, seeking to uplift one of their own, is simply compelling.

Doesn’t this gospel remind us of the importance of uniting together as a community of believers; through our small Christian communities; through our ecclesial assemblages; lifting each other’s faith up towards Christ?

To the bigger picture; the kings of the Old Testament ended up disuniting the people of God; but Christ comes to bring people together – and there is no splendor that exceeds a community of believers who are united; together seeking the face of the Divine King - Christ!
