Sometimes
in our Christianity, we may fail to see any sign of God’s presence in our
lives. When we face trials; and tribulations; and dry seasons with regards to prayers,
and our unfortunate state of being doesn’t seem to have an ending, we can
easily and deeply yearn to seek a sign from Heaven.
Just
a little Heavenly sign to re-assure us that God is still on our side.
In
today’s Gospel, the Pharisees are yearning to witness with their very human
eyes, a heavenly sign that would make them confirm that truly, in their midst
is Christ, the Son of God.
In
our ordinary days; when we face afflictions, it is very easy – like the
Pharisees – for us to assume the very presence of Christ in our lives at such
moments.
But
in his letter to James, St Paul prevails upon us to face trials with joy, for
when our faith is tested, then we gain perseverance. And when we attain a
perfect perseverance, we become complete, lacking nothing!
St
Paul has a way of exalting sufferings: Romans 5: 1-5; 2
Corinthians 12:10.
Most
importantly, the main reason why we should rejoice in our sufferings is through
the knowledge that when we are weak, then Christ is much-much nearer to us,
than any other time.
