Liturgical Year b, Cycle II

Tuesday of the Fifth week in Ordinary Time

Reading for Mass

First Reading: First Kings 8: 22-23, 27-30
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 84: 3, 4, 5, 10, 11
Gospel: Mark 7: 1-13

In today’s First Reading, despite all the efforts that he made to come up with a Temple of the Lord, Solomon fully acknowledges that God, in His Mighty; omnipresent being cannot fit in a little structure that has been created by the human hands.

And the Gospel reading is pointed on why, in our worship, we should avoid dwelling so much on the traditions, like the Pharisees did.

“For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews, do not eat without carefully washing their hands, keeping the tradition of the elders.” (Mark 7: 3)

Christ comes out strongly against this manner of worshiping.

Today, Christ would certainly wish that we look beyond the traditions – which we have perfectly gotten used to: He’s wish that we look beyond the structures of our beings, the body gestures that we make; and silently make our souls the loveliest dwelling place, for our Lord, mighty God
